Confused about negative vs. positive reminders on tapping points

Hello,

I'm a bit confused. The tapping solution talks about focusing on the negative emotion like anger, anxiety etc in the set up statement and reminders and sticking to these narratives, but there are many youtube videos that start with negative reminders but move in to positive affirmations. An example is Brad Yates 'fear of driving' video where he uses reminders like'...this anxiety, this fear, and so forth but eventually makes statements like ' I choose to feel calm when I drive, I will be a model driver etc. So...which is correct? Cheers.

It's important to focus on what emotion or sensation is actually present. While tapping on the positive can be great, clearing out the negative is necessary first. The analogy of cleaning out a wound is helpful here. If you were to stitch a cut before cleaning it out the cut will get infected. With EFT, when focusing on a particular problem pinpoint the negative feeling first and measure how strong the feeling/sensation is. Stick with that for at least a full round or more until you feel it shift. Then move to the next negative feeling or sensation and tap on that. When you feel like the negative has shifted, then positive affirmations can be calming and helpful to tap on. Tapping scripts like the ones Brad Yates provides in his videos can be great as a jumping off point. Ultimately to get to deeper issues, getting to specific events and aspects is necessary to bring resolution to a problem. Hope this helps.
