Abstract:
Holistic nursing demands many dimensions of care for patient needs, including those in the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual domains. SQEFT is a psychospiritual intervention that combines Quranic therapy with the acupressure and psychological techniques of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). It is usually offered as an adjective treatment to conventional medical approaches. This study sought to measure symptom changes in patients with schizophrenia using the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Participants were seven patients diagnosed by a psychiatrist using DSM-IV-TR criteria. Treatment duration was four weeks, and weekly sessions were between 60 and 90 minutes. The first two weeks, EFT and Quranic healing were explained to patients as a group. SQEFT was demonstrated and then practiced by patients. For the final two weeks, patients formed pairs and practiced with each other. Posttest, symptoms declined on the BPRS general scale, as well as all 18 sub-scales (p < .000). This study demonstrated that SQEFT has the potential to substantially improve the cognitive condition of schizophrenia patients.
