Dear EFT Community,
EFT Practitioner and Trainer, Alan Morison, discusses repressed memories from childhood and how he helped a client unlock the memory of the painful events from childhood and tap on them.
By Alan Morison
My client had suffered abuse when she was 7-years-old. When I asked her in our session to play the movie, using The EFT Movie Technique method, she could not access a memory of that particular childhood period, having blocked it.
Remembering happier times later on in life was no problem, but this traumatic period of time just wouldn’t show up in her recalled memories from childhood.
I tapped with her for blocking out this period of her life, and although she made some progress, I knew we had not yet addressed the core issue.
As we talked about her situation, she said that she could only see herself as a 21-year-old looking back at the 7-year-old. As we continued to talk, a thought came to me that I needed to get her to go back and see her childhood, even though she didn’t want to.
The EFT setup phrase was:
“Even though I don’t want to go back, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
After tapping for a while, this statement created the desired effect, as she was able to release her emotions that she had been blocking over the years. However, I felt that her emotional side was not yet healed and she agreed, estimating her SUD Level of Intensity 0-10 scale at a 7.
The next EFT setup statement we used was:
“Even though I don’t feel complete, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
After tapping several rounds, her SUD level of Intensity was reduced to a 2. I tapped with her next for the remaining lack of completeness which finally release the emotional pain she was holding on to. It was easy to tell when I got the biggest smile from her.
I know that many people blank out severe emotional times, so I hope that this experience can be of help to others in a similar situation and that you will tap to release the repressed memory knowing that you are deeply and completely accepted.
