EFT to Close the Gap Between What You Weigh and What You Want to Weigh EFT for weight loss

When people who are trying to lose weight think about being at their ideal weight, instead of feeling fabulous, they often feel resistance.

That resistance has to do with believability. In the gap between what you weigh and what you want to weigh live beliefs and feelings that prevent you from believing it is possible for you to achieve your goal. 

Often when you want something, there are pushbacks. This is why there is a gap. This is why what you want isn’t in your life right now. To achieve your goals, you need to close the gap. You don’t have to close the gap completely to begin to see results, however. 

In this article, I will walk you through a session with one of my clients where we narrowed the gap. She wanted to weigh 150 (losing 20 pounds) but didn’t believe it was possible. I asked her how she would feel if she weighed 150 pounds and she said, “Energized.” 

We started the EFT tapping session with the statement “I now weigh 150 pounds and feel energized.” 

I asked her how believable it felt to get there, on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being “My body knows 100% it is doable and it is right around the corner, it is coming, I am feeling it” and 0 being “Not true at all, I can’t even imagine I will ever get there, I don’t believe it is possible.” Her number was 2. 

I asked her what she was saying to herself when she imagined weighing 150 pounds.

“There is no way I will make it.”

“I have tried before and failed.”

“I am just not good enough.”

I asked her where she felt that in her body. She said in her solar plexus. 

We repeated each statement and I asked her how true each of those statements felt (0–10, with 0 not true and 10 totally true). The highest one was “I am not good enough,” which was 8. I checked to see where she felt it and it was still in her solar plexus.

We did a few rounds of tapping on it, using this Setup Statement:

Even though I would love to weigh 150, I don’t think I am good enough, I forgive myself for that and accept who I am anyhow.

I checked in to see if her number had gone down and it only went done to a 6. I then asked her what was the downside of losing weight. What would be a reason she might not want to lose weight?

She said she was afraid she might get more attention from men. I asked her where in her body she felt that. She said her chest. I asked her to tune in to that feeling in her chest and was there a time in her life where she remembered having that feeling.

We continued tapping on the Karate Chop point while she told me a story. When she was 16 and looking thin, athletic, and fabulous, a boy pushed her against the wall and thrust himself at her. I asked her to give this incident a name. She called it “a moment of disgrace.” We proceeded to tap on “a moment of disgrace,” which was at a 9, and each of the feelings she had around this situation. “Violated, shocked, shaken, disbelief someone would do that to me.”

The feelings around this incident came down to a 3. I asked her what was holding it at a 3. 

Then next thing that came up was she realized she had a “fear of being punished for looking fabulous,” also connected to this event and she felt the fear in her chest at a 9.

We tapped using this statement: 

Even though this “moment of disgrace” made me feel afraid I will be punished for looking fabulous, I accept who I am and how I feel about it.

After a few round and tears her number was down to a 0, and instead of feeling disgraced she felt the guy was just a jerk.

I went back to the original statement, “I now weigh 150 and feel energized,” to check on what number she was at and she now felt it at a 10, it was completely possible. 

She had never told anyone about that incident, didn’t realize what an impact it had on her. It was the first time in her life she realized she didn’t feel safe losing weight. She felt she’d had a real breakthrough. 

In our next session, 2 weeks later, she said she had been easily able to stay with her healthy eating plan and felt she had gone down a pant size. 

Not being able to achieve your weight loss goals is a complex process. Fortunately, we have EFT to clear away the feelings and beliefs that create the gap between where we are and where we want to be.
