Dear EFT Community,
Certified EFT practitioner and success and weight loss coach Shannon McDonald reveals how she used EFT to help a client regain control of her eating and lose weight.

A client came to me recently for weight loss. Her main issue with food was control. She felt she had no control when it came to food. She would eat an "entire meal's worth of food" while cooking for her family, and then would sit down at dinner to eat all over again!
She felt she could never get enough food. She would eat when bored, depressed, or overwhelmed, or when she just needed an escape from work. But again, the biggest issue was control—once she started, she could not stop, until she was so full she felt sick.
Her biggest weakness was leftover pizza. She would eat it either late at night or for breakfast the next morning.
We started with a few rounds of Basic EFT with a focus on control.
I used a "tug of war" technique that I learned from Dawson Church, where we would use conflicting statements about control while tapping:
Even though I have no control over food, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Even though I do have control over food, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Even though food controls me, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Even though I have control over food, I deeply and completely accept myself.
This technique helps break up the existing patterns in the brain.
After a few rounds, she felt much better and relaxed.
I then showed her a technique that I've borrowed from EFT Expert and weight loss coach Karen Donaldson, which has proven successful time and time again.
When a client is experiencing a craving for unhealthy/ too much food, she first gives herself permission to eat that food in 5 minutes, but promises to tap first:
Even though I really have a craving for these potato chips right now, and I can eat them if I want to, I deeply love and accept myself. (3 times)
The purpose of this technique to to ensure the client is not feeling deprived. After tapping, she can choose whether to proceed with eating the unhealthy food or to skip it. (In the majority of cases, clients pass on the food after tapping, as they are feeling relaxed.)
Several weeks later, I ran into this client.
She looked amazing! She proudly told me that she had dropped 10 pounds in just a few weeks thanks to these two tapping techniques. She now feels very calm and relaxed when it comes to food, and tends to only eat when hungry.
*Please note: Such dramatic results after only one session have not been the norm for my clients. Usually, there are many deeper issues that have led to weight gain, and they must be dealt with first before the weight starts to come off.
